Private Tours of Bordeaux’ Vineyards
Saint-Emilion, Medoc and Graves

Bordeaux vineyard map

Bordeaux is a beautiful and renowned vineyard full of history and celebrated wines. The most well-known areas are Saint-Emilion and the Medoc, famous for their Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends.

For white wine lovers, the under-the-radar yet stunning Graves district is highly recommended to explore as well. We are talking small-group wine expeditions, so a vineyard tour here could easily include the marvellous Pessac-Léognan area that embraces many Grand Cru Classé chateaux (classified growths). For sweet wine lovers, we could include Sauternes.

For your comfort, schedule only one major area per day for these full-day personalised wine journeys. They are situated in opposite directions, with Bordeaux city in the middle.

Customized Full-Day Tours of Saint-Emilion (East/pink on the map)

Saint-Emilion is a scenic and slightly hilly area that produces wines with a majority of merlot in the blends. While the châteaux (wineries) are relatively small, many of the wines produced here are highly esteemed.

The medieval village situated right in the heart of the vineyards is an important aspect in choosing the Saint-Emilion tour. A stroll here is definitely worthwhile.

For these personalized wine journeys, you will be pleased to know that the tiny, highly priced Pomerol can be visited on the same day.

Customized Full-Day Tours of the Medoc (North-west/purple on the map)

Home to the renowned 1855 Classification, this is where the coveted classified growth wines are produced. The “Route of the Chateaux” takes you by one famous estate after the other. Prestige and history are key words here and Cabernet Sauvignon is king.

The Medoc is divided into eight wine districts (appellations), each producing different wines despite their geographic closeness. Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien, Haut-Médoc to name a few. During a full-day wine tour, you’ll have the opportunity to explore several of them…

Customized Full-Day Tours of Graves (South-west/orange on the map)

The Graves appellation produces red and dry white wines; it stretches over 30 kms (20 miles), from the city of Bordeaux all the way down to Sauternes. A great variety of both expensive and affordable wines are produced here.

Pessac-Léognan, a top-end appellation inside the Graves district, embraces some of the oldest and most charming chateaux in Bordeaux, and produces fantastic dry white wines in addition to reds. This is the land where the Grand Cru Classé white wines of Bordeaux come to life (just you watch out, Burgundy!).

Sauternes is famous for its golden, refined, complex, sweet, yet balanced, white wines with a loooong finish. The special micro-climate allows the grapes to be affected by noble rot that promotes the sweetness in the wines. Once you taste these wines, you’ll fall in love! You’ll also uncover why these wines are so complicated to make.
